Cougar Volleyball Goes 1-3 at Tough Lincoln Land Invitational

SPRINGFIELD, Illinois – The Columbus State Community College volleyball team faced tough D2 teams over the weekend, going five sets with two of them to finish 1-3 at the Lincoln Land Invitational.

Columbus State swept D3 Harper in straight sets while falling to a ranked Illinois Central, Kalamazoo Valley, and Sauk Valley.

Key Match Statistics

Illinois Central College (17-25, 16-25, 16-25)

Bobby Diamond led all players in kills (14) and assisted blocks (3) while Audrey Jenkins led the game with 26 assists.

Kalamazoo Valley Community College (20-25, 25-21, 26-28, 28-26, 10-15)

Diamond led the Cougars with 18 kills while Jenkins dished out 45 helpers. Tate Rybarczyk led the game with 33 digs while Esther Holtzclaw led all players with five assisted blocks.

Harper College (25-18, 25-23, 25-19)

Leading the game were Diamond with 17 kills, Jenkins with 32 assists, Akea Hunter with four assisted blocks, and Rybarczyk and Samantha Dunn with two service aces each.

Sauk Valley Community College (24-26, 25-7, 18-25, 25-11, 14-16)

Diamond led all players in kills with a whopping 22 on .645 hitting along with four solo blocks and five assisted blocks. Tiziana Russell and Mason Steele added 13 and 11 kills respectively. Running the offense was Jenkins with 53 assists while Delaney Short served up a game-high two aces. Rybarczyk led the Cougars with 22 digs while Jenkins, Dunn, and Short recorded a combination of 38 digs.

Overall Statistical Leaders

-Diamond is 4th in the nation in total kills (286), 9th in attack percentage (.368) and 10th in kills per set (3.67).

-Rybarczyk is second in total digs with 461 and 7th in digs per set (5.55).

-Jenkins is 4th in assists per set with 9.52.

-Hunter is 9th in the nation in blocks per set (1.13).

-The Cougars are No. 1 in the country in total blocks (241). They are also in the top ten in multiple categories.
