COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Columbus State Community College volleyball team (18-2, 10-1 OCCAC) defeated the Clark State Eagles (2-12, 1-6 OCCAC) in straight sets on Saturday afternoon.
The Cougars attacked with .379 hitting efficiency and used 12 total blocks to keep Clark State at bay.
Georgia Payne gave an impressive performance with ten kills on 19 errorless swings and 20 assists for her fourth double-double of the season. She also posted six digs and three blocks.
Whitney Staggs recorded six kills on .455 hitting and put up a career-best seven blocks, including three solo stuffs. Bobby Diamond, Tanya Yeauger, and Edan Jones each contributed five kills while Tiziana Russell chipped in four successful attacks and two blocks.
Audrey Jenkins added three kills, 17 assists, and seven digs. Anna Megown and Samantha Dunn had one kill apiece. Dunn's kill was her first attack this season. She also had a trio of aces and five digs.
Columbus State will head to Nelsonville to take on the Hocking College Hawks on Wed, Oct. 3. First serve is at 6:00 p.m.
-All but two of Columbus State's wins this season have been sweeps.
-Columbus State sits in the top-ten in the nation in four statistical categories: No. 3 in blocks per set (2.77), No. 5 in assists per set (10.99), and No. 6 in kills per set (11.43) and attack percentage (.296).
-Bobby Diamond remains as No. 4 in the country in hitting (.414).
-Samantha Dunn has scored at least one ace in 17/20 matches this season.
-Megan Mechlin has recorded double-digit digs for the past eight matches.
-With at least one kill registered, Audrey Jenkins has had no hitting errors in the past four matches.
