COLUMBUS, Ohio – NJCAA DIII's best men's golf programs are set to compete at the 2019 NJCAA DIII Golf Championships June 4-7 in Chautauqua, New York. The Cougars punched their ticket to the championship after finishing as the Region XII DIII Champions earlier this month.

The tournament kicks off at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 4 at the Chautauqua Golf Club with one round being played each day. After the final round on Friday, June 7, an awards ceremony will take place where the team and individual champion will be announced as well as all-Americans.

Sophomores Jacob Wilson and Nicholas Darling are excited for their first trip to the national stage. "We've been playing pretty well and we think we have a good shot to win," said Wilson. "It will be tough but we have the consistency and mentality to pull it off."

Darling said the team is looking forward to the experience. "Playing 18 holes over four days feels like we are playing a PGA tournament. We are excited to play at such a prestigious course among great competition."

The Lake Course at Chautauqua Golf Club is a par 72, 6,535 yard traditional Donald Ross golf course. According to Coach Nelson, it's a "natural, unspoiled golf course that is laid out using the features of the original terrain. The player must understand what the terrain requires in order to post a good score."

Thirteen teams out of ten regions will be competing for a national title, in addition to the individual region champions (not on the winning team) who earned an automatic bid. Qualifying teams are listed in the below chart. Columbus State is representing Region XII, an area that covers Ohio, Michigan, and Indiana.

The team will depart on Sunday, June 2 for two practice rounds prior to official competition. "Playing in this tournament is an experience they will remember for the rest of their lives."
