Cougar Men's Basketball Picks Up Two Wins at Lakeland Tournament

KIRTLAND, Ohio – The Columbus State men's basketball team picked up two wins over the weekend at the Lakeland Tournament in northeastern Ohio.

Inside the Games

-Defeated DII Erie and DII Lakeland

- Record: 2-1 overall

Game One: Columbus State 98, Erie 85­­

-The Cougars shot 48.4% overall (30-for-62) while holding Erie to 38.4%. They also out-rebounded the Kats 49-27).

-This marks the first win for Columbus State of the season after dropping a season-opening loss to Schoolcraft.

Key Statistics

-Jeremiah Green led the team with 17 points on 7-for-19 shooting. He also grabbed five rebounds and smacked down two blocks.

-Elijah Bishop and Corey Baker each scored 14 points and had two steals. Bishop also recorded eight boards and two blocks while Baker registered five rebounds and four assists.

-Other Cougars in double-figure scoring were N'Keeley Elmore (12) and Shawn Hawkins (11).

 Game Two: Columbus State 84, Lakeland 75

-The Cougars dominated the offense, shooting 52.2% overall, 50% from the behind the arc, and 76.9% from the line.

Key Statistics

-Mason Mollohan led the game with 18 points and ten rebounds, the only double-double from either team.

-Shawn Hawkins was nearly perfect with 15 points on 6-for-7 shooting and 3-for-3 from the charity stripe. He also grabbed five boards.

-Elijah Bishop rounds out the double digit scoring with 12 points along with his five rebounds and one steal.

Statistical Leaders

-Columbus State is 13th nationally in total rebounds per game (47.0) and 14th in free throw percentage (71.4).
