Day of Service Sees Record Number of Student-Athlete Volunteers

COLUMBUS, Ohio – On Tue, Sep. 24, more than 800 students, faculty, and staff headed out into the community to volunteer for Columbus State's Seventh Annual Day of Service. Terrence Lawrence and Julie Mosca of the athletics department organized 60 student-athletes at two Columbus city park sites.

The volleyball and men's basketball teams volunteered to mulch the playground at Dodge Park in Franklinton. The team worked together on various mulch piles to fill in bare spots on the playground. An additional smaller group worked on trash pickup around the community center and park.

Similarly, the women's basketball, cross country, and golf teams offered their time at Goodale Park in Victorian Village, helping to mulch 700 trees in the park.

The community service is not a requirement for Columbus State student-athletes, but athletics staff and coaches encourage players to give back to the community on days they don't have class, practices, games or other obligations.
