Trio of Volleyball Players Receive All-OCCAC Recognition

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) released its postseason awards for volleyball on Friday and three members of the Columbus State team received recognition.

Freshman Bobby Diamond and sophomore Georgia Payne picked up All-OCCAC First Team laurels along with All-Region accolades.

Diamond, an outside hitter, was a unanimous selection for the All-OCCAC team. She averaged 2.94 kills per set while hitting .327, in addition to her 0.75 blocks and 0.70 digs. Along with receiving four Conference Player of the Week nods she was named a NJCAA National Defensive Player of the Week on Sep. 19. Diamond was also selected to the conference's All-Freshman Team.

Payne broke out as primarily a setter this season after spending her freshman campaign as an outside hitter. In league action, she averaged per set 5.13 assists, 2 kills on .292 hitting, 1.79 digs, and 0.88 blocks. She was named Conference Player of the Week Sep. 24-30.

Freshman setter Audrey Jenkins rounded out the trio of All-OCCAC Cougars with an Honorable Mention award. She averaged 4.93 assists, and 1.96 digs per set.

Columbus State went 28-5 this season and 13-3 in conference play. Their season ended in the Region XII DIII semifinal to an upset by Lorain County.
