Cougars Fall in Regional Semifinal to Lorain County

PERRYSBURG, Ohio – In a stunning upset, the No. 3 Columbus State Cougars fell in five close sets to the unranked Lorain County Commodores on Saturday afternoon at Owens Community College.

The Cougars conclude the 2018 season with a 28-5 overall record and 13-3 mark in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference. The loss comes after the Cougars previously defeated Lorain County on Sep. 14 in five sets and on Oct. 20 in four sets.

As a team, Columbus State recorded ten blocks and held the Commodores (20-10, 10-6 OCCAC) to a .173 clip. The Cougars also had season-highs in total kills (60), assists (58), and digs (90).

Bobby Diamond paced the Cougars with 17 kills on 35 swings for a game-high .400 attack percentage.

Edan Jones recorded her fifth career double-double with 12 kills and 17 digs while Tanya Yeauger added 10 kills and tied her career-high of seven digs.

In her last time wearing navy & white, Georgia Payne did a little bit of everything including registering eight kills, 27 assists, seven digs, and four blocks.

Tiziana Russell chipped in a career-best eight kills while Whitney Staggs and Audrey Kills rounded out the attack effort with three and two kills respectively. Staggs also had a career-best four digs and a game-high five blocks. Jenkins secured her fifth double-double with 25 assists and 13 digs.

In the back row, Megan Mechlin dug a team-high 20 balls. Danielle Miller and Samantha Dunn added ten and six digs respectively in the effort.
