PIQUA, Ohio – The Cougars concluded their regular season play with a 3-2 loss to Edison State on Wednesday. The defeat makes them 13-3 in OCCAC play and 28-4 overall.
After easily winning the first set, Columbus State dropped the next two sets before clawing their way back in the fourth set. However, the Chargers' momentum in the fifth and final set couldn't be stopped, resulting in the loss.
Bobby Diamond and Edan Jones led the offense with a combined 17 kills while Georgia Payne and Tanya Yeauger each contributed seven terminations. Tiziana Russell and Whitney Staggs each added six and five kills respectively. Payne's seven successful attacks came on 26 errorless swings while she dished out a team-high 22 assists.
Staggs, Diamond, Payne, and Russell each put up a trio of blocks.
Columbus State returns to action on Saturday afternoon for the Region XII DIII Championship, hosted by Owens Community College.
-Staggs has had at least .300 hitting in 14 games this season. She also had a career-high two aces this game.
-Payne has been errorless on hitting in 13 games this season (with at least two kills).
-Jenkins now has over 500 assists and 200 digs this season.
-Diamond recorded her 100th career-block this game.
