COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 3 Owens Express swept the No. 2 Cougars on Friday while Columbus State topped the Lorain County Commodores 3-1 on Saturday.
The Cougars now stand at 28-3 overall and 13-2 in OCCAC action.
In the Owens match, Bobby Diamond and Edan Jones led the Cougars with a combined 13 kills on .200 and .211 respectively. Georgia Payne and Audrey Jenkins' directed the offense with their 24 helpers for the team's 24 kills. On defense, Jones also led the back row with ten digs while Whitney Staggs put up a team-high six blocks. The Express held the Cougars to a season-low .091 attack percentage.
In the Lorain County match, the Cougars accumulated 49 kills with Diamond, Jones, and Payne each tallying ten successful attacks. Payne achieved her third triple-double of the season, adding 22 assists and 12 digs while Jones had her fourth double-double, adding 14 digs.
Megan Mechlin's career-high 29 digs contributed to Columbus State's season-high 89 digs.
Columbus State heads to Piqua to take on the Edison Chargers on Wed, Oct. 24 at 6:00 p.m.
On Sat, Oct. 27, the Cougars will face both Lorain County at 2:00 p.m. in the Region XII DIII semifinal. The winner of that match will play Owens at 4:00 p.m. The championship will be held at Owens Community College in Perrysburg.
