ROCKFORD, Illinois – The Columbus State Community College volleyball team shut down three Illinois teams over the weekend to improve their record to 22-2. The Cougars swept McHenry County (Crystal Lake, Ill.) and John Wood (Quincy, Ill.) and won a five-set thriller over No. 7 host Rock Valley.
Outside hitter Bobby Diamond had an outstanding run at the net over the three matches, accumulating 46 kills with an average .569 attack percentage, in addition to, racking up five aces and 11 blocks.
Georgia Payne also had a notable performance, accumulating 25 kills, 54 assists, 29 digs, and 11 blocks.
Tanya Yeauger recorded 17 kills along with 10 digs and nine blocks while Edan Jones logged 16 kills accompanied by 51 digs and six aces. Audrey Jenkins matched Payne's 54 assists and had 25 digs. In the back row, Megan Mechlin registered a total of 51 digs and chipped in three aces.
Next up for the Cougars is a road match vs. Lakeland Community College (2-11, 1-4 OCCAC) on Wed, Sep. 19 at 6:00 p.m. They return home for another conference match on Fri, Sep. 21 vs. Lakeland.
McHenry Match Notes
-Diamond had an astonishing 14 kills on 20 errorless swings in the match. Her effort also includes a game-high three aces.
-Payne also had an amazing offensive game in the match, totaling 10 kills on 19 errorless swings along with two aces and a game-high three solo blocks.
Rock Valley Notes
-Collectively, the team had season-highs in digs (88) and total blocks (18).
-Payne collected her second career triple-double in the match with 10 kills, 20 assists and 14 digs. She also put up five blocks.
-Yeauger tied her career-high five total blocks.
John Wood Notes
-The Cougars held John Wood to a .082 attack percentage while hitting .260.
Overall Statistical Leaders
-Diamond climbed to No. 3 in the nation in hitting (.435).
