Volleyball Routs the University of Rio Grande’s JV Squad in Straight Sets

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 3 Columbus State Community College volleyball team swiftly defeated the University of Rio Grande JV team in three sets (25-7, 25-8, 25-6) to pick up their 15th win of the season.

The Cougars controlled the match from the outset, finishing with 32 kills and just two errors on a season-high .588 hitting. They committed no serve-receive, block, or ball handling errors in the match.

Leading the offense were Tanya Yeauger and Edan Jones, who each tallied seven kills on .636 and .545 hitting respectively. Bobby Diamond registered five on .500 hitting while Tiziana Russell added four kills on four errorless swings for a perfect 1.000.

Whitney Staggs, Georgia Payne, and Anna Megown each chipped in two kills. Staggs' .667 hitting was a career-high for the freshman.

Setters Audrey Jenkins and Georgia Payne assisted in Columbus State's 32 kills while each adding seven digs and two aces. Yeauger recorded a career-high three aces.

Columbus State's leader in digs, Megan Mechlin, scooped up ten for the defense. Samantha Dunn and Danielle Miller had six digs apiece.

The Cougars return to action on Wed, Sep. 26 when they travel to Highland Hills to face Cuyahoga.
