Volleyball outhits and out-blocks Lorain County in sweep

ELYRIA, Ohio – With the regional championship host site at stake, the Columbus State Cougars and Lorain County Commodores faced off in a conference battle on Saturday afternoon. The Cougars accurate hitting and defense at the net allowed them to prevail with a three set sweep (25-21, 25-12, 25-16) over the Commodores. Columbus State improves to 8-4 in the OCCAC and 12-8 overall.

The Cougars outhit Lorain County 34 to 21 kills, led by Kaitlyn Ahrns' match-high 13 kills at a career-best .500 attack percentage.  Morgan Danec had seven successful attacks with no errors and a .412 attack percentage while Hannah Wallace added six kills and an ace.  Rachel Ralston tallied four kills along with a career-high two service aces.

Columbus State out-blocked the Commodores 24 to 3, led by Danec's match-high seven blocks, tying her career-best. Ralston blocked a career-best six balls, followed by Allyse Rutter's five, Wallace's four, and a pair from Ahrns.

Rutter and Vicki Osborne dished out 13 and 10 assists respectively.  Katlyn Ray led the team with ten digs while Haley Litman dug eight balls.

The game determined the location of the Region XII DIII championship game, which will be hosted by Columbus State on Fri, Oct. 29 at 6:00 p.m.

Next up for the Cougars is a home match against Sinclair Community College on Sat, Oct. 22 at 11:00 a.m.
