COLUMBUS, Ohio – Following her third Conference Player of the Week honor, sophomore outside hitter Stephanie Ruffing has been selected as the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II Player of the Week as announced late yesterday afternoon.
A Powell native, Ruffing's national recognition is the first of her career and the second time that a Columbus State women's volleyball student-athlete has been selected as the NJCAA DII National Player of the Week. Currently, Ruffing ranks first in the country in hitting percentage (.543) and kills per set (5.43).
Ruffing's honor came after she logged a season-high 37 kills to lead the No. 8 Cougars to a five set win over No. 5 Kirkwood. In addition, she averaged 5.40 kills and 3.94 digs per set last week.
Ruffing and the rest of the No. 8 Cougars (26-1, 12-0 OCCAC) play their last home match Friday, October 24 v. the nationally ranked DIII Lorain County. On Saturday, they hit the road heading to Toledo to take on conference foe Owens at 12:00 p.m. Conference play concludes after this weekend and the Cougars will move into post-season play beginning next Friday, October 31.
