JAMESTOWN & BUFFALO, New York – The Columbus State Community College women's basketball team dropped two losses to tough DII teams over the weekend. The losses being Columbus State to a 1-8 record for the season.
Game #1 – Jamestown Community College
Whitney Staggs powered the balanced attack for the Cougars, totaling 15 points, 12 rebounds, six assists, and five steals. Melia Walder also scored 15 points along with pulling down 10 boards for her first career double-double. Lyrik Easley added 12 points while Saraysia Nelson contributed 11 points. Rounding out the Cougars' scoring effort were Madison Miles and Qiyje' January with seven and five points respectively.
Easley led all players in blocks with three while Nelson and January grabbed two steals each.
With a tied score of 70-70 and seconds to go, Jamestown drained a last second three-pointer is clinch the win. Despite the loss, the Cougars saw some of their best shooting of the season, including going 14-for-17 at the line (82.4%) a season-best.
Game #2 – Erie Community College
In this rematch, Staggs posted numbers in every statistical category: 15 points, seven rebounds, five steals, three assists, and two blocks. Nelson and Easley also scored in double figures with 12 points each. January scored eight points while Walder and Miles added three apiece. Tezzaeria Christian rounded out the scoring with two points.
Walder pulled down a team-best eight rebounds while Easley and Nelson combined for 13 boards. Easley also registered a trio of steals and two blocks.
The Cougars lost to Erie last month on the home court 61-49.
Next up, the Cougars travel to Middletown to take on Miami University-Middletown on Wed, Dec. 12.

-Staggs leads the Cougars in four statistical categories: points (15.1) rebounds (11.1), steals (2.4) and assists (2.2) per game.
-Easley leads the team in blocks per game (1.4).
