Cougar Women’s Basketball Goes 1-1 Against DII Teams

ROCKVILLE, MD – The Columbus State Community College women's basketball team picked up their first win over the weekend at the Montgomery College Tip-Off. Freshman Whitney Staggs had a stellar performance on the court, accumulating 46 points and 23 rebounds over the two games.

Game #1 – Montgomery College

Staggs, Qiyje' January, and Lyrik Easley all scored double-digit points in the 79-60 loss. Staggs had a double-double with 11 points and boards while January & Easley each put away ten points.

Madison Miles tallied eight points while Melia Walder led the rebounding effort in the game with 12 along with a team-high three steals and seven points.

Game #2 – Frederick College

Four Cougars scored in double figures including Staggs who led all players with 35 points on 17-for-24 shooting. She also pulled down 12 rebounds. Saraysia Nelson contributed 14 points while McKenna Cummins also had a double-double with 12 points and a team-best 14 rebounds and five assists.

Nelson and Walder also dished out four assists each.

Next up, the Cougars host OSU-Club on Wed, Nov. 14 at 7:30 p.m.

Overall Statistical Leaders

-Staggs leads the Cougars in points per game (17.3) and in rebounds per game (10.0), followed by January (10.3 points per game) and Cummins (7.3 rebounds per game).

-Four Cougars are tied for the highest average of assists per game with two (Cummins, January, Nelson, & Walder).

-Walder leads the team in steals per game (2.3).
