Columbus State cruises past Hocking and Lorain County in straight wins

NELSONVILLE, Ohio - In the outmatched game against Hocking College, the Cougars defeated the Hawks 135-38 on Saturday afternoon. All seven Cougars who saw the court had double digit points and at least one rebound, two steals, and three assists. As a team, Columbus State shot 53.5% from the field and 75% from the line.

Perhaps the most impressive performance of the game came from freshman guard Breann Mullins, who secured her first and the team's only triple-double this season. Mullins scored 18 points, pulled down 10 rebounds, and had a remarkable 12 steals. She shot 9-for-12 from the field and added a block as well.

Leading the Cougars' offense was Hunter Kershaw with 29 points. Kershaw also had nine rebounds, three assists, two steals and a block. Alana Stokes posted a solid performance, going 11-for-13 from the field, for a total of 22 points. Stokes collected a career-high nine steals along with three assists and two rebounds.

Keyvona Davis and Carli Codner-Pinto contributed 20 points apiece. Davis had her ninth double-double of the season, pulling down 19 rebounds while smacking down four blocks and dishing out three assists. Codner-Pinto tallied five assists and three steals.

Brooke Pothast narrowly missed a double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds while Laura Gomez had her first with 12 points and a career-high ten assists. Pothast chipped in four assists and three steals and Gomez grabbed six rebounds and five steals.


ELYRIA, Ohio - Carli Codner-Pinto led five players in double figures with 25 points as the Columbus State women's basketball team cruised past Lorain County in a 113-76 win on Sunday afternoon.

With its third straight win, Columbus State is 12-11 overall and 7-4 in conference play.

Codner-Pinto added four steals, two assists, and two rebounds for the Cougars, while Hunter Kershaw was close behind with 24 points, nine rebounds, three assists, and two blocks.

Brooke Pothast scored a career-high 22 points while again nearly missing a double-double with nine rebounds. She also added a trio of assists and steals.

Keyvona Davis led all players with a career-high 23 rebounds to go along with 16 points, her fifth consecutive double-double and 10th overall of the season.

Alana Stokes matched Davis' 16 points along with four rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Breann Mullins almost posted another triple-double with 10 rebounds, nine assists, and eight points as well as five steals. Laura Gomez also had double figure rebounds with ten and chipped in two points to round out the Cougars' scoring.

Collectively, the Cougars out-rebounded the Commodores 67-47 and scored 38 points off of turnovers. The Navy & White shot 41.2% (49-of-119) from the field while holding Lorain to a 28.9% shooting percentage.

Columbus State returns to action on Wednesday when they hit the road to take on Cuyahoga Community College in Highland Hills at 5:30 p.m.
