Women's basketball goes 0-2 at tough MC Tournament

ROCKVILLE, Maryland - The Columbus State women's basketball team got off to a rough start with two four-point losses to Howard Community College (Columbia, MD) and host Montgomery College this past weekend.

On Saturday, the Cougars traded leads throughout the game, with Howard pulling through in the last seconds with the win. Freshman guard Carli Codner-Pinto led Columbus State with 21 points, shooting 6-8 from the three point line. Freshman guard Hunter Harris posted 19 points and three steals while freshman center Keyvona Davis achieved a double-double of 13 points and 15 rebounds. Sophomore guard Alana Stokes and freshman guard Breann Mullins each chipped in seven points while center Hunter Kershaw finished with six points and nine rebounds. The final score was 82-78.

On Sunday, Columbus State took on the Montgomery College Raptors, leading nearly the whole game until the final minutes. Four Cougars posted double-digit points, including Hunter Harris, who led with 20 points as well as seven rebounds. Alana Stokes put up 12 points and snatched eight rebounds. Carli Codner-Pinto and Hunter Kershaw each posted 11 points with Kershaw snagging 11 rebounds and her first double-double of the season. The final score was 73-69.

The Cougars will be back in action at the University of Rio Grande on Wed, Nov. 11.
