COLUMBUS, Ohio – Sophomores Bridget Geiger and Erinn Bailey powered the Columbus State women's basketball team to Wednesday's 83-73 win over the Cincinnati State Surge in the Delaware Hall Athletic Center. Geiger tallied 16 points, nine rebounds, and five steals while Bailey achieved a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
The Cougars complete the season-sweep over the Surge after losing to Cincinnati State in the post-season semi-finals last season. Columbus State improves their overall record to 19-3 and 10-2 in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference.
The Cougars connected on 52.2 percent of their shots, draining 35 of 67, including shooting 6-for-11 (54.5%) from the three point line. Columbus State also outrebounded the opposition (46-31). Despite Cincinnati State forward Jonessa Moore's 24 points the Surge were unable to come back, allowing the Cougars a 10 point win on the home court.
Wednesday was also Sophomore Night, where the nine sophomores of the Columbus State women's basketball team were honored before tip-off while accompanied by loved ones. The sophomores recognized were Erinn Bailey, Victoria Davis, Bridget Geiger, Breyonia Hearn, Taylor Horn, Jasmine Junkins, Paige Lewis, Kierstynn Myers, and Jaslynn Rollins.
Next up, Columbus State travels to No. 2 Owens Community College on Saturday, February 21. Tip-off is at 1:00 p.m.
