Several Cougars Set Personal Records at Regional Meet, Roach Named All-Region

LANSING, Michigan – The Columbus State Community College cross country team competed in the Region XII DIII Championships on Saturday afternoon at Grand Woods Park. The men's team finished second behind Kellogg Community College in the DIII race.

Leading the scoring effort for the men was Kyle Roach, who finished fourth among DIII runners in the 8k race with a career best time of 28:24.9.

According to coach Dustin Iacovone, he is pleased how the weekend turned out. "The guys ran great and I think the results show we are a top 10 team in the country. We had quite a few PRs today but even the guys who didn't PR had great races. I'm really proud of Kyle for getting all-Region as well."

Aaron Kennelly and Anas Nur were the next Cougars who crossed the line. Kennelly finished with a career-best time of 29:09.8, placing fifth while Nur clocked in at 29:36.2, earning eighth place.

Rounding out the scoring efforts for the Cougars were Dylan Williams (31:39.1/12thplace) and Laithe Abu-Obeid (32:29.3/14thplace).

Other Cougars competing were Nickolas Caiazza and Anthony Gripper who finished with times of 32:36.4 and 32:45.1 respectively.

For the women's 5k race, Maribel Nava finished with a time of 26:53.4 for ninth place. "Maribel is tough. She has no one at the line with her but it doesn't bother her and she just runs her race. I was happy to see her PR this weekend," said Iacovone.

On Sat, Nov. 3, the Cougars will compete at the NJCAA DIII Cross Country National Championships, held in Westfield, Massachusetts.
