Cougar Men’s Basketball Go 1-1 over the Weekend

JAMESTOWN & BUFFALO, New York – The Columbus State Community College men's basketball team went 1-1 with tough DII teams over the weekend. The Cougars now stand at 5-4 overall.

Game #1 – Jamestown Community College

Three Cougars powered the offense in the 83-78 win on Friday: Corey Baker and A.J. Smith each scored 15 points while Shawn Hawkins recorded 12 points. Baker also dished out a team-high three assists and Hawkins grabbed a game-best four steals. Leading the rebounding effort was RJ Fairrow with seven boards. Baker, Smith, and Keshawn Underwood all pulled down four rebounds each.

The Cougars had their best shooting from the line all season, going 20-for-23 for 87%.

Game #2 – Erie Community College

In this rematch, Melieck Evans and Darius Dudley led the scoring effort with 15 and 14 points respectively. Other scorers include A.J. Smith with nine points and Antwon Hampton and Austin Bennett with seven points apiece. Evans and Hawkins led the rebounding effort with five boards each while Baker, Smith, and Fairrow each snatched four rebounds.

The Cougars lost to Erie last month on the home court 93-82.

Next up, the Cougars travel to Middletown to take on Miami University-Middletown on Wed, Dec. 12.

Overall Statistical Leaders

-Smith leads the Cougars in points per game with 10.9 followed by Evans (9.6) and Baker (8.9).

-Baker leads the team in rebounds with 5.6 followed by Evans with 4.6 per game. He also leads the Cougars in assists per game (3.1).

-Hawkins leads the team in steals per game (1.7).
