Cougar Men’s Basketball Drops Two Losses Against DII Teams

ROCKVILLE, MD – The Columbus State Community College men's basketball team suffered two losses over the weekend at the Montgomery College Tip-Off, including a one-point loss to the host team.

Game #1 – Montgomery College

Despite doubling their shooting percentage in the second half, it was not enough to secure a win for Columbus State. Four Cougars scored in double figures including A.J. Smith who had a team-high 18 points, nine rebounds, and four steals. Antwon Hampton and Jeremiah Green each contributed 11 points while Melieck Evans tallied ten points.

Green and Shawn Hawkins each pulled down five boards while Evans and Austin Bennett snatched four rebounds apiece.

Along with his nine points, Corey Baker added a trio of rebounds, assists, and steals in the effort. The final score was 79-78.

Next up, the Cougars host OSU-Club on Wed, Nov. 14 at 7:30 p.m.

Game #2 – Frederick College

Once again, Smith & Green were Columbus State's leading scorers with 14 and 12 points respectively. Green shot a perfect 4-for-4 from the field and Smith sunk in four three-pointers.

Baker led the Cougars with nine rebounds and five assists while Smith and Green pulled down a combined 14 rebounds. Hampton grabbed a team-high three steals. The final score was 76-58.

Overall Statistical Leaders

-Smith leads the Cougars in points per game (15.7) followed by Hampton (10.3).

-Evans leads the team in shooting percentage (50%) while averaged 7.7 points per game.

-Baker leads the team in three categories: rebounds per game (7.7), assists per game (3.3), and steals per game (2.3).
