Gierhart powers Cougars past Edison

PIQUA, Ohio –Matthew Gierhart matched his career high 30 points and 12 rebounds in Columbus State's 107-66 road win over Edison Community College on Wednesday evening.

The sophomore forward sank 12-for-20 from the field and 6-for-7 from three-point range for the best double-double of his career. Columbus State improved to 12-7 overall and 6-4 in the OCCAC while Edison dropped to 15-7 and 3-6 respectively. In their last meeting on Columbus State's home court, the Cougars barely edged out the Chargers, winning by two points.

Sophomores Chris Byrd and Mario Young each scored 17 points with Young dishing out ten assists for his ninth double-double of the season. He nearly missed a triple-double, pulling down nine rebounds. For his part, Byrd drained a trio of three's along with snatching a team-high two steals.

Anthony Butler rounded out the double-digit scoring with ten points along with six boards. Zion Parham and Austin Bennett added eight points while Michael Mathews chipped in five for the Cougars. Parham also had seven rebounds and five assists.

Columbus State shot their best field goal percentage of the season with 57.5% along with from behind the arc with 55.0%. It marks their sixth 100+ point win.

The Cougars return to action on Wed, Feb. 7 for a 7:30 p.m. road game against Lakeland Community College.
