Men's basketball picks up conference win at Owens

PERRYSBURG, Ohio – Rodney Willis scored a career-high 34 points as the Columbus State men's basketball team (10-12, 7-6 OCCAC) defeated the Owens Express (19-8, 9-4 OCCAC) 96-89 on Saturday afternoon. Columbus State was up 42-41 at the half when Willis stepped up with 24 second half points. The game stayed within 13 points with five ties and lead changes.

Despite Owens' higher shooting accuracy (50%-45.8%), the Cougars grabbed more rebounds (40—35), more steals (11—3), and forced 22 turnovers that they converted to 30 points.

Willis' 34 points came on 13-of-24 shooting from the field and 7-of-8 shooting from the line. Willis also grabbed a career and game-high 16 rebounds and a career-best five steals in arguably one of the best games of his career.

Mario Young scored 22 points on 8-for-13 shooting while Matthew Gierhart added 17 points. Dylan Geig tallied nine points while William Prater added seven points off the bench.
